Eastern University students to organize Pongu Thamil

Eastern University students are preparing to organize 'Pongu Thamil' celebrations in Batticaloa district after the New Year, medial reports in Jaffna said.

Arrangements are being made to facilitate participation of Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil students in the celebrations, one of the organizers of the event said.

The main aim of the Batticaloa Pongu Thamil event is to call for the restarting of the stalled Peace Talks between the LTTE and the Sri Lanka Government, reports added.

Large number of residents of Batticaloa, intellectuals, education officials, students of Institutions of Higher education and school students are expected to participate in the Pongu Thamil celebrations, reports said.
