Search operation in Trincomalee

The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) and the Police have been conducting several search operations in the Trincomalee area since Thursday, October 15, following a tip-off that a group of Liberation Tigers has infiltrated the eastern port town.

Fifty persons were arrested during the search operation and five of them are detained for further interrogations.

Devotees who went to Sanneeswarar temple on Saturday were also screened by the SLA and the Police, said sources in Trincomalee.

Meanwhile search operations have also been intensified in the northern Jaffna peninsula said sources there.

The Army conducted a search operation in Karaveddi on Saturday night around 9.00 p.m. and the operation went on until 2.00 p.m. Sunday.

Local residents were summoned together at village libraries in Mandaan and Yakalai and screened.
