Eight veteran NE Tamil scholars to be honored

The thirteenth annual Tamil Literary festival of the North East Provincial Education, Cultural, Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry is to commence Friday at Vavuniya. On the final day of the festival to be held on Sunday eight veteran Tamil scholars in the northeast province are to be conferred with the Governorís Award-2003, sources said.

The eight Tamil scholars are: -

1. Ms Thangamma Appakutty who is the head of the Tellipalai Thurgai Thevasthanam,
2. Mr.A.J.Kanakaratne who is a critic and prolific writer in Tamil and English,
3. Sinnamani K.Kanapathipillai, exponent in Villisai music,
4. Mr.Raju Master, a Carnatic Musician,
5. Mr.Shanmugam Sivalingam, a Tamil writer,
6. Mr.M.Ponnambalam, a Tamil writer,
7. Mr.Fazeel A.Kariappar, a Tamil writer
8. Mr.K. Kanapathipillai, a well known artist


The first day festival is to be inaugurated Friday evening. A cultural pageant will be held from Vavuniya Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam to Irambaikulam Girls Maha Vidiyalayam where the three-day festival is to be held, sources said.
