Muslim, Tamil farmers attacked in Vattamadu

Three muslim farmers and two Tamil tractor drivers were attacked Sunday morning by a group of men tending cattle in Vattamadu, Thirukkovil Pradeshya Sabha, in Ampara district, security sources said. The identity of the attackers has not yet been released, according to sources.

The injured were, M.S.Fareed, M.A.Lafir, M.I.Razeed, and tractor drivers Tharmalingam Chandrasegaram and Karuppiah Subramaniam, said sources.

The Amparai district Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) and the Inspector-in-Charge of the Akkaraipattu Police station rushed to the scene to conduct inquiries.

Batticaloa-Amparai Head of the Political Wing of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), E.Kausalyan, and Amparai district Head of the LTTE Political section, Bava, also visited the scene to see for themselves circumstances surrounding the said incident, according sources.
