SLA prevents student leader from entering Kilinochchi

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 10 December 2003, 16:44 GMT]
Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army located at Muhamalai sentry Tuesday evening prevented a delegation of the International Students Association of Thamileelam (ISAT), headed by its President, Mr.S.Gajendran, from proceeding to Kilinochchi to meet students of Kilinochchi Technical College, sources said.

The soldiers manning the checkpoint at Muhamalai first allowed the ISAT delegation to enter the LTTE-controlled area after checking their travel documents. However, some army officers who arrived at the scene immediately stopped the ISAT members from entering LTTE-controlled areas and ordered them to return to Jaffna immediately, civil sources said.

Mr. Gajendran charged that the SLA had refused permission for him to enter LTTE-controlled area because of prejudice against his organization.
