Trincomalee district branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) is renovating four welfare centres in the Trincomalee district with one million rupees allocated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sri Lanka. The four welfare centres are located in Jinnah Nagar, Nilaveli, Periya Vilankulam and Namalwatte in the Trincomalee district, SLRC sources said.

1185 persons of 244 displaced families have been living under trying condition in the four welfare centers since 1990 following the outbreak of violence in the Trincomalee district, sources said.

SLRC Trincomalee district office has provided cardboard materials to 31 families in Jinnah Nagar welfare centre to put up enclosure to ensure privacy for each family in a paddy store building, which is being used as welfare centre, sources said.

Cadjans (dried coconut leaves) have been provided to 113 families staying at Nilaveli welfare centre and thirteen families in Namalwatte with roofing materials and common wells have also been provided to these centres. Members of all three communities are staying in these centres waiting resettlement in their lands in the district, SLRC sources said.
