A powerful bomb exploded in a school in Mannar Tuesday afternoon, Police in the island town on Sri Lanka's northeastern coast said. The explosion caused severe damage to the school's roof. But no one was hurt as the school had closed for the day, Police said.
The bomb went off around 3.05 p.m in St. Lucia's School in Pallimunai, a coastal suburb of Mannar.
Mr. Selvam Adaikalanathan, ex MP for Vanni who rushed to the spot following the explosion told TamilNet he suspected elements that are planning to create fear in Mannar and to thereby prevent Tamils from voting.
