Jaffna water tanks remain empty

The German Technical Institute (GTZ) which provided large water tanks for the storage of water to be used by residents of Jaffna, has refused to bear the cost of transporting the water to these tanks, said sources in Jaffna.
This has left the Jaffna Municipal Council with the task of providing water to fill the tanks, but with no source of revenue to bear the cost of the services.
The water tanks, which hold more than 2000 gallons, have been constructed in the more populated parts of the Jaffna town such as at the Jaffna main bus stand, Paashaiyoor, Kurunagar, Columbuthurai, Chundikuli and Bastian Junction in the town.
