SLAF Mig 27 crashes

A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Mig 27 aircraft crashed near the Colombo international airport, around 9 a.m., Wednesday, military sources said.

The Russian built Mig 27 was on a training mission when it developed engine trouble and crashed into the Negombo lagoon. Flight Lieutenant Gunatilake who was the pilot escaped by ejecting himself and safely landed into the lagoon, the sources said.

The other MIG 23, which also went on training mission safely returned to the Katunayake base, the sources added.
