Uyilankulam entry to remain open for Madhu festival

During the popular annual festival days at Madhu shrine between 30 June and 2 July, Uyilankulam and main Madhu roads will remain open 24 hours, according to Mannar Assistant Police Commissioner, A.K.Jayawardene, local media reorts said.

Mr.Jayawardene gave assurances to the district officials of the opening hours during a meeting convened at the Mannar Secretariat to discuss festival security matters at Madhu shrine.

During the festival that lasts 9 days starting from 23 June thousands of pilgrims converge on the shrine grounds from different parts of Sri Lanka.

The extra road opening hours is expected to relieve the transport woes of the devotees during the peak festival days, according to reports.
