Singapore PM arrives in Colombo

Goh Chok Tong, Singapore's prime minister who is due to hand over power to his deputy, Lee Hsien Loong, in July, arrived in Sri Lanka Friday afternoon for a three day visit as the final leg of a South Asian tour, after visiting Pakistan and Bangaladesh, sources in Colombo said.

The visit is an effort to boost trade ties and discuss security issues, officials said.

Goh is expected to meet Sri Lanks's president Ms.Kumaratunge and other political leaders, according to Singapore Government sources.

"Singapore and Sri Lanka have already laid the foundations for talks to conclude a free-trade deal, when ministers held inaugural discussions on an agreement last October," AP news agency reported.
