Seven Karuna-cadres apprehended

Batticaloa-Amparai district secretariat of the Liberation Tigers (LTTE) said today that they have arrested seven cadres belonging to renegade Karuna group who were working with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Intelligence, media sources said.

Some of the arrested were functioning in the LTTE controlled area of Thikkodai and Thumabankerni, and the remaining cadres were operating in the SLA controlled areas of Kakuvanjikudi, Kaluthavalai and Kallaru, media sources said quoting a memorandum released by the LTTE.

Hand guns, grenades, communication sets and hand phones were recovered from their hideouts, sources added.

The renegade group functioned without the knowledge of Sri Lanka Special Task Force (STF) soldiers and the Sri Lanka Police, media sources further said.
