Trincomalee Town Lions Club appoints new President

Mr.B.Uthayashankar, an Accountant by profession was appointed President of the Lions Club of Trincomalee Town recently for the ensuing year 2004-2005 at an event held at Silver Beach Hotel, Allesgarden, and Trincomalee. Vice District Governor Professor Luxhmen Wijeweera was the chief guest.

Trincomalee Town Lions Club has been engaged for the last several years implementing humanitarian projects such as providing shelter to homeless, conducting health camps in undeveloped and uncleared in the district.

The new administration of the club has proposed to launch rehabilitation projects for the physically and mentally handicapped persons with the support of non-governmental organization and the Department of Social Services and to conduct seminars and workshops to develop the leadership skill of youths of Trincomalee, sources said

"Our club under my leadership would work for the development of underprivileged segments of the society.

"I appeal to the members of the club to join hands and work towards the achievement of the objectives," said the new President Mr.Uthayashankar in his inaugural address.

Mr.C.J.Ratnakumar was elected Secretary and Ms J.Umashankary Treasurer of the club for the ensuing year.
