Fall of SLA’s Mullaithivu base remembered

The public in Mullaithivu conducted a special rally Sunday to mark the capture eight years ago of the Sri Lanka Army’s Mullaithivu base by the Liberation Tigers, press reports from the North said.

Mr. Pon Thiyagam, the head of the Secretariat for Martyrs’ Affairs and Commander Mangalesh of the Sea Tigers division inaugurated the rally. The LTTE fighters who died during Operation Unceasing Waves were remembered and honored at the event.

Mr. V. Ilankumaran of the LTTE’s education division, Mr. T. Kanagaratnam, the Tamil National Alliance MP, and Mr. Muhunthan, the LTTE’s Political head in Mullaithivu, also attended.

A cultural program was held at the end of the event, with a drama based on the history of the ancient king of the Vanni, ‘Pandara Vannian’
