Buisness owners, auto drivers and residents of Kaithady protested for more than an hour from 11.30am Saturday in Kaithady junction on Kaithady-Chavakachcheri portion of A9 highway against the Sri Lanka Army's (SLA's) attempt to build a new checkpoint at an existing Auto-stop near the junction, sources from Kaithady said.
Traffic along the A9 highway was stopped during this hour of protest, according to Kaithady residents.
SLA commanders and Police officers went to the scene of the protest and after discussions told the protesters that the SLA will not construct a new checkpoint.
