HRCSL Commissioner visits Jaffna

Mr.S.Selvakumaran, a member of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) Saturday paid a visit to Jaffna and held talks with the political leadership of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Jaffna district. Mr.C.Ilamparithi, Jaffna district LTTE political head expressed dissatisfaction over the actions taken by the HRCSL in regard to the disappeared youths after the arrest by the Sri Lanka Army during 1996-1997 period during the discussion which was held at the HRCSL Jaffna regional office, human rights sources said.
Mr.Ilamparithi later told media persons that he has expressed his
resentment over the attack on Jaffna based human rights officials by the police.
Jaffna district trade unions organizations' Convenor Mr.Imayavan and Jaffna regional co-ordinator of the HRCSL Mr.Ruwan Chandrasekara also participated in the discussion.
Mr.Ilamparithi further said, "The normal life of our people in the Jaffna district has been affected by the actions of some policemen and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers who take law into their own hands. People are losing confidence in
making complaints against such errand policemen and soldiers."
Mr.Ilamparithi said, "In areas we control, we maintain high standard of discipline thus preventing human rights violation."
