Norwegian FM meets Sri Lanka's President

Norwegian Foreign Minister Mr. Jan Petersen met with Sri Lanka’s President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, Wednesday night, and discussed the resumption of peace process between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), sources said.

Mr. Petersen was accompanied by Mr. Vidal Helgesen, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Erik Solheim, Special envoy to Sri Lanka, and Mr. Hans Brattskar, the Norwegian Ambassador in Sri Lanka. Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, was associated with President Kumaratunga.

The Norwegian team will visit Kilinochchi Thursday and is expected to meet with Mr. V. Pirapaharan, the leader of the LTTE.
