Maveerar Day celebrations begin in Jaffna

Maveerar day celebrations began Sunday morning in Jaffna district with hoisting of Thamileelam national flag and lighting the flame of sacrifice in several LTTE war cemeteries. Students, parents, relatives of martyrs and members of public participated in these events in large numbers, sources said.
Jaffna district LTTE women wing head Ms Kalaivilizhi hoisted the Thamileelam national flag, and Mr.Vijitharan, LTTE's Jaffna district administrative head lit the common flame of sacrifice followed by several personalities including Jaffna district director of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in Kopay cemetery in Valigamam division, sources said.
Vadamaradchchi division political head Mr.Daya hoisted the Thamileelam national flag and Mr.Subash, head of Civil Groups Consortium lit the flame of sacrifice in Udupiddy Ellankulam cemetery in Vadamaradchchi division.
Mr.C.Ilamparithi, Jaffna district LTTE political head hoisted the Thamileelam national flag and Mr.Sivanath, Thenmaradchchi divisional political head lit the flame of sacrifice in the Kodikamam cemetery in Thenmaradchchi division.
Mr.Kannan, Theevagam divisional political head hoisted the Thamileelam national flag and Mr.Yarlnambi, Velanai area political head lit the flame of sacrifice in Chaati cemetery in Theevagam division, sources said.
Meanwhile, organizers in Valvettithurai division began clearing LTTE cemeteries and erecting cut-outs in important junctions in VVT to celebrate Maveerar Day following the burial of the bodies of two Tamil youths who were killed by unidentified gunmen Sunday around noon. The two youths were killed Friday evening when they were playing football in Chidambara College grounds, sources said.
