Mr.Chelliah Pathmanathan has been appointed as the Project Director of the World Bank funded North East Housing Reconstruction Programme (NEHRP) with effect from January 1st, 2005. Currently he is holding the post of Government Agent of the Jaffna district. Mr.R.Ganesh, the incumbent Vavuniya Government Agent is to succeed Mr.Pathmanathan in Jaffna district, district secretariat sources said.

The NEHRC head office is located on the second floor of the newly constructed Chief Secretariat of the North East Provincial Council (NEPC) in Trincomalee town.

NEHRP, a four-year plan, is to be implemented from 2005. About one thousand villages are to be selected in all the eight districts of the northeast province and 46,000 houses out of 326,000 destroyed in the two-decade-old war are to be reconstructed in the four-year period. The allocation of houses in each district for reconstruction would be made according to damages caused to the houses, the number of families resettled and poverty status of the families, NEHRP sources said.
