SLMM facilitates meeting between STF and TRO in Ampara

Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission facilitated a meeting between the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation and Sri Lanka Special Task Force representatives in Ampara Thursday, SLMM said in a media release Friday.

Full text of the Press Release issued by the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission:

SLMM facilitated a meeting between the local STF commander and TRO representative in Ampara 13/01/04.

During the meeting both side discussed recent incidents that took place which have been widely reported by local and international media. Both parties agreed to increase regular communication and to work together at local levels to resolve any future issues.

TRO DMU is monitoring the situation and encouraging teams to resolve issues immediately at district level to avoid a recurrence or escalation of these unfortunate incidents. It has also requested the Centre for National Operation (CNO) to directly advice of any change in policies regarding the role of the security forces in the relief operations.
