Germans give boats, engines, bicycles

Humedica, a german NGO helping Tsunami victims in the north, Thursday gave fifteen boats, out board motors (OBMs) and bicycles to fishermen in three villages on Jaffna's Vadamaradchi coast. Officials of Humedica, Liberation Tigers, local fisheries societies took part in ceremonies to handover the boats.

"Each boat is worth hundred and twenty two thousand rupees (approx. 1200 USD). Humedica has promised to give us seven hundred boats", said Mr. Kandavanam Sooriyakumar, general manager of Federation of Vadamaradchi Fisheries Societies.

Mr. C. Ilamparithi, head of LTTE's political division for Jaffna and Mr. M. Arunan, head of Sea Tigers' political division participated at the handing over function.

Humedica gave a nine horse power OBM for each boat. Eight boats were given to fishermen in Munai, six in Thumpalai and one in Viyapaarimoolai. Each fisherman was given a bicycle along with the boat.
