Haukland to head SLMM till Gen. Furuhovde recovers

Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Petersen, on Wednesday has appointed former Chief of Staff, of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), Hagrup Haukland, as temporary Head of Mission. The appointment is coming to an immediate effect with Mr. Haukland assuming his new duties Wednesday.
"Head of Mission, (ret) Maj. Gen. Trond Furuhovde has been on medical leave for treatment in Colombo since mid-January. Gen. Furuhovde will remain on leave for further medical treatment and recovery for some months to come. Taking this into consideration the Norwegian Government has appointed Mr. Haukland while Gen. Furuhovde is on sick leave", a statement from the SLMM said.
