The parish residence of the Methodist Church in Kiran, 28 kilometres north of Batticaloa, was damaged in a grenade attack Wednesday night around 11.30. The pastor, Rev. N. Arulnathan and his family were away when unidentified persons lobbed a grenade at the parish home. The parish care taker was not injured in the blast.
Some local residents said they suspected criminal elements in the village disgruntled with the Church over distribution of Tsunami aid.
Grenades washed away from the Kalkudah Sri Lanka military camp are in the hands of miscreants in the area, they said.
