Civilian shot dead in Arayampathi

Two unidentified gunmen riding in a motorbike shot and killed Mr. Ponniah Chandrabavan (22), a civilian, who was on his way to a temple in his motorbike Wednesday at 5.45 PM, Katankudy Police said. The incident took place in Arayampathi, Batticaloa-Kalmunai Road.

Acting Officer In-Charge (OIC) of Katankudy Police, Mr. N.A Hettiyarachchi is conducting the investigations into the killing.

Police said the reason for the killing is not known.

The assasins had used a 9 mm pistol, Police said.

Arayampathi is located 6 km south of Batticaloa.
