Officials' lethargy said cause for under utilization of Samurdhi funds

[TamilNet, Monday, 27 June 2005, 10:40 GMT]
Nearly 40 lakhs rupees allocated to Jaffna district under the Samudri Development scheme of the Government of Sri Lanka are in danger of being returned back without being used for development in Jaffna, owing to lethargic attitude of Government officials in Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said.

The funds are earmarked for use in repairs of rural roads, improvement of village wells and common latrines, sources said.

Samudri funds met a similar fate in 2004, according to official records.
