Members of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) met with Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians Sivanathan Kishor and Sivasakthi Ananthan at 2.30 pm Friday at the SLMM offices in Vavuniya, and had another meeting with Vavuniya district Head of LTTE political wing Gnanam and Peace Secretariat co-ordinator for Vavuniya Mr Kumaravel at 3.30 pm at the LTTE political offices, sources in Vavuniya said. Discussions centered on Thursday's Thirunavatkulam grenade explosion and the recent increase in threats of violence, according to sources.
Parliamentarians told the SLMM delegation that although the incident during the Tamil Conference may have been caused to create fear among the people, the grenade explosion at the LTTE offices was a deliberately planned attack targetted at the LTTE cadres.
Both the LTTE officers and the parliamentarians told the SLMM believed that the perpetrators of the incidences want to create fear psychosis in Vavuniya similar to that prevails in Batticaloa and Amparai.
The parliamentarians and the LTTE delegation requested the SLMM to take steps to prevent these type of incidents.
