Homeguard injured in friendly fire

Anura Basanayake, a homeguard attached to Thanthirimalai Police station was injured when Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers opened fire while he was hunting near the army camp Tuesday morning, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) C. Abeysinghe said.

Thanthirimalai SLA camp is located 30 km northwest of Vavuniya near Anuradhapura border.

SLA soldiers fired towards the jungle when they noticed movement of personnel in the area close to their camp, SLA sources said.

Basanayake has been admitted to the Vavuniya General Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening according to hospital sources.
