Anura Bandaranaike sworn in as Sri Lanka's new FM[TamilNet, Monday, 22 August 2005, 12:12 GMT]Mr. Anura Bandaranaike, the brother of the Sri Lanka's President Ms. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, was sworn in as the country's new Foreign Minister Monday evening. Mr. Bandaranaike succeeds Lakshman Kadirgamar who was assassinated by unidentified gunmen a week ago.
The new SL Foreign Minister is expected to spearhead his campaign in promoting the image of Sri Lanka abroad. He will be supported by a panel of experts who are led by the head of the Peace Secretariat Dr.Jayantha Danapala who was earlier tipped to be the successor of Lakshman Kadirgamar, sources close to Kumaratunga government said. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Finance Minister, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, was also sworn in Monday as the new Minister in charge of Industry & Investment Promotion, the secretariat said.
