The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Sinhala nationalist-cum-Marxist party is to lay twelve demands to reach a consensus with Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, presidential candidate of the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) in turn of its support at the presidential poll. The JVP would announce its demands at news briefing scheduled to be held Monday, party sources said.

The central working committee of the JVP during the weekend formulated twelve demands to be submitted to Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse.

JVP leadership has decided to hold at least three rounds of talks with Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse to reach finality on their demands. JVP intends to seek an agreement on four main demands, canceling the P-TOMS agreement, proposed peace talks with the LTTE on the North East crisis, privatization of pubic sector organizations and education, sources said.

JVP politburo meeting chaired by party leader Mr. Somawanse Amerasinghe has appointed a committee to go into the question of supporting Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse in the presidential poll or to field its own candidate, sources said.
