Businessman shot by Muslim gunmen in Eravur[TamilNet, Tuesday, 08 November 2005, 10:45 GMT]Mr. Sinnathamby Puhari, 26, a Muslim owner of a business was shot and wounded in Monday night at his residence in Eravur by gunmen believed to be belonging to a Muslim armed group. Mr. Puhari was shot when he returned home after talking to his friends at Meerakerny in Eravur at 8:30 p.m., Eravur Police said. Police allege that a Muslim armed group in the east is engaged in extortion among Muslim business owners in Batticaloa. The gunmen had used a T-56 rifle, according to the Police. The victim, who is married and has a child, was admitted to Batticaloa Hospital. Eravur is located 15 km north of Batticaloa town.
