JVP to contest in 11 local councils in Amparai

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the marxist alliance of Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse, has filed nominations to contest in 11 local councils of Amparai district, political sources in Amparai said. Amparai district has one Municipal council, one Urban council and 16 Pradeshya Sabahs. 396453 voters will use 391 polling booths for voting for during the local council elections.

Sammanthurai, Akkaraipattu and Attalaichenai Pradeshya Sabahs are included in the eleven local councils JVP has filed nominations to contest, sources said.

Posters saying "Villages and Towns are with JVP" are displayed in several bus stands and key junctions, residents in Amparai district said.

73 Independents have filed nomination papers till 12 noon on the last day for nominations Wednesday (today).
