Drug shortage hits hospital

[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 July 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The hospital on the island of Neduntheevu, which lies off the Jaffna peninsula, is badly hit by a shortage of medicine, said hospital sources.

The hospital has only received the supply of medicine approved for the first quarter of the year and the stock of medicine allowed for the second quarter has not been received as clearance from the security forces has not yet been granted, the sources added.

Meanwhile the Department of Community Medicine, at the University of Jaffna, and UNICEF have jointly organised classes and seminars to inform the public about problems related to mines.

Over 600 people have so far taken part in this program.
