Women's Day sports competition begins in Muttur east

A week-long sports competition to mark the Tamileelam Women Reawakening Day, conducted by the Tamileelam Sports Department, began Friday morning in Ilankatihurai Muhathuwaram Maha Vidiyalayam grounds in the LTTE held Eachchilampattu division in the Trincomalee district. About five hundred women from about twenty-five sports clubs are participating in the competition., sources said.

The final event is to be held on the International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th, sources said.

Mr.Theepan, Trincomalee district head of the Thamileelam Sports Department hoisted the national flag. Sothia Brigade Commander in Trincomalee district Marutham and Ms Kaaronja, LTTE Trincomalee district women wing political head lit the flame of sacrifice.

Mr.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head declared open the competition, sources said.

Elle and Net Ball tournaments were held on the first day of events.
