Trincomalee District Scouts Association held a scout camp in memory of their former District Scout Commissioner Mr.G.A.de Almeida who passed away at the age of 87 last January. Scouting was introduced in Trincomalee district eighty-seven years ago in the year 1920.

Mr.Almeida joined the scout movement in 1964. He became the District Scout Commissioner of Trincomalee in 1980. When he assumed office scouting was in only four schools. Scouting came to a standstill due to 1983 disturbances

Mr.Almeida gave a boost to scouting in schools in the year 1993. Within one year he was able to extend scouting in about 37 schools. He was instrumental in producing several booklets on scouting in schools. He passed away on January 17th after a brief illness.

The Trincomalee District Scout Association organized a one-day camp in memory of late Mr.Almeida for his valuable services to scouting movement in the grounds of the Trincomalee Sri Koneswara Hindu (National) College during the weekend.
