Army patrol ambushed

A Sri Lankan Army soldier was killed and two wounded when the Liberation Tigers ambushed an army patrol yesterday around 11 p.m. in Pulmoddai, north of the eastern port town of Trincomalee, ex-militant sources told TamilNet.

Another five soldiers are reported missing in the attack which took place between the 10th and 13 th mile post, they added.

Pulmoddai is a Muslim town on the northern extreme of the Trincomalee district, on the edge of the Velioya (Manal Aaru) military zone.

Meanwhile, they said, according to Sri Lankan defence sources, two Liberation Tigers were killed in the general area of Mankulam yesterday around 12.30 p.m.
