Trinco results, victory for Tamil nationalism- Elilan

Tamil voters have endorsed the Tamil nationalism overwhelmingly by handing over the administration of the Trincomalee Urban Council (UC) and Trincomalee town and gravets Pradesiya Sabah (PS) to the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) in the local elections held Thursday, said Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) speaking at a discussion held Sunday morning with the newly elected ITAK councilors in the Trincomalee district, sources said.

Mr.Elilan further said that new ITAK councilors should also promote Tamil nationalism. This is the first time in the history of Trincomalee UC ten members were elected from the ITAK.
Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district TNA parliamentarian, Colonel Sornam, LTTE Special Commander in Trincomalee district, Trincomalee district commander Vasanthan, and Trincomalee district sports head Theepan attended the discussion held at Kadatkaraichchenai common hall in Muttur east.
35 ITAK councilors elected to Trinco UC (10), Trincomalee PS (06), Verugal PS (07), Muttur PS (04), Thampalakamam PS (2), Kinniya UC (01), Seruvila PS (01), Kuchchaveli PS (03) and Morawewa PS (01) participated in the discussion, sources said.
The ITAK captured the administration of the Verugal PS when it returned uncontested on the nomination day.

In Kantalai PS ITAK polled only 447 votes. Kantalai was a traditional Tamil village before it was converted to a Sinhala majority village after the implementation of the State aided colonization scheme with Sinhalese from the south since the country attained political independence in the year 1948.
