Ten agricultural tanks to be restored in Mannar

Under the 10,000 Tanks Restoration Project of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Irrigation Ministry has allocated eight million rupees for the reconstruction of only 10 agricultural tanks, sources in Mannar said.Mannar district secretariat has been appealing for assistance in restoring twenty tanks but the appeal was not successful, sources added.

Koomankulam, Vattavankulam, Karunkalikulam, in Musali division, Kaaraidaikulam, Kovilkulam, Veetiarkurippukulam in the Mannar division, Aatkattivelikulam, Udanalkulam in the Madhu division and Thambanaikulam and Pattivankulam in Nanattan division are to be reconstructed under this project in Mannar district, agrarian department sources said.

Meanwhile, Provincial Irrigation Department in the North East has allocated funds for the reconstruction of three tanks, Kanakarayankulam, Peththankulam and Mangaiarthuvaramkulam.
