MP's funeral on Saturday

The funeral of Mr. Shanmuganathan, Vavuniya parliamentarian, and his son who were killed yesterday in the mine blast will be held on Saturday at 3.00 p.m. in Vavuniya said PLOTE sources today.

Their bodies will be brought to his residence at Irambaikkulam today and people will be allowed to pay their last respects, they added.

Sources in Vavuniya said the town remains somber following yesterday's attack.

Most shops remained closed this morning and there was little traffic on the roads. The schools also marked poor attendance, they added.

Meanwhile, 'Veera Makkal Thinam' - the annual remembrance day organised by the PLOTE to commemorate their dead cadres has been wound up following yesterday's attack, said the sources.

The PLOTE organise 'Veera Makkal Thinam' for four days from July 13 to 16, the day Mr. Uma Maheswaran, group's former leader was assassinated in Colombo reportedly in internal feude.
