SLA Major killed, Claymore ambush in Welikanda[TamilNet, Saturday, 22 April 2006, 08:30 GMT]A Major rank Sri Lanka Army official and an SLA soldier were killed and five SLA soldiers wounded when their pickup vehicle was ambushed with a Claymore mine at Welikanda in Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa border Saturday around 1:00 p.m. SLA officials in Colombo said. SLA Major Percy Jagath, attached to the 8th Battallion of Gemunu Regiment, was killed in the attack, according to the military officials in Colombo. A soldier wounded in the attack on Saturday succumbed to his wounds Sunday. The attack took place 150 meters away from a checkpost in Singapura. The wounded soldiers were rushed to Polonnaruwa Hospital.
