Two helmeted men on a motor bicycle passing the Sri Lanka police sentry point on the Batticaloa-Trincomalee main road in Batticaloa, lobbed a hand grenade into the sentry point Wednesday around 7 p.m, injuring Mr. Bandara who was rushed to the Batticaloa Teaching hospital, said the police.
The hand grenade had landed directly on the injured in the police sentry point, called CTB sentry, which was manned by four policemen at the time of the attack, added the source.
Though the police and the Sri Lanka Army conducted an intensive roundup search in this region no one was apprehended.
