TNA MPs launch sit-in-protest in front of SL Parliament

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians on Tuesday walked out from the well of the Sri Lankan parliament and launched a sit-in-protest after making a statement condemning the extra-judicial killings of Tamil civilians in the North-East.

The TNA MPs demanded that the Government of Sri Lanka should stop all killings of Tamil civilians being carried out by its troops and the paramilitary cadres, and disarm the paramilitary groups.

The sit-in-protest, launched in front of the Sri Lankan parliament around 11:00 a.m., would continue till the parliament adjourns for the day, the MPs said.

Jaffna district parliamentarian Mr. Mavai Senathirajah, General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK), detailed the killings that had taken place in the North East.

Sixteen TNA parliamentarians are currently seated on the ground in front of the parliament complex while a posse of police personnel and security officials watching the protest campaign.

The sitting of the parliament is in progress.
