Home guards, Tamil woman injured

At least three home guards were injured in a claymore mine explosion on the Trincomalee-Colombo main road, around 7 a.m, Tuesday, police sources said. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers who rushed to the blast site fired at random, injuring a 48 year old Tamil woman in Potkerni, a resettled Tamil hamlet in Thampalakamam division, civil sources said.
The injured woman was identified as Leelathevi.
The claymore blast occured near 99th mile post located
after Thampalakamam junction on the Trincomalee-Colombo road, about about 25 km. southwest of eastern port town.
The home guards were on a road clearing patrol when they were hit by the clay more blast, the sources said.
