SLMC captures Kalmunai MC, ITAK one PS in Amparai district

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) captured four local authorities including the Kalmunai Municipal Council and three Pradesiya Sabahs in the Amparai district. The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) won one PS and the Muslim National Congress one PS.




Six local government authorities, Kalmunai MC, and five PS-Pottuvil, Ninthavur, Addalaichchenai, Akkaraipattu and Navithanveli went to polls Saturday. Kalmunai MC and Navithanveli PS have been newly carved out local authorities.

SLMC won eleven seats of the 19 member Kalmunai MC. ITAK captured power in Navithanveli PS and the Muslim National Congress (MNC) won Akkaraipattu PS. MNC is led by Mr.A.L.M.Athaullah, a minister in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government.

SLMC National Leader and parliamentarian Mr.Rauff Hakim is to hold a press briefing Sunday following the victory in four local government institutions in the Amparai district.
