Brattskar meets Thamilchelvan in Kilinochchi

Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Hans Brattskar met with S. P. Thamilchelvan, Political Head of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Tuesday around 9.00 a.m at the LTTE Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi, and discussed the forthcoming visit of Erik Solheim, Norwegian Minister and peace envoy, and the present critical situation in Sri Lanka, said sources in Kilinochchi. Brattskar arrived in Kilinochchi after visiting the site of Allapiddy killings on Monday.

Tamil Eelam Police Chief P. Nadesan and Director LTTE Peace Secretariat, S. Pulithevan, participated in the meeting which lasted two hours, sources in Kilinochchi said.

Ambassador Hans Brattskar, after the meeting also spoke to the delegation from the South consisting of Buddhist monks and Christian priests at the Kilinochchi Peace Secretariat around 11 a.m.

The delegation of religious clergy which met S. P Thamilchelvan around 11 a.m at the Peace Secretariat, said that they had come to meet the LTTE Political Head to Kilinochchi as a part of their mission in persuading the LTTE and the Sri Lanka government (GoSL) to engage in peace talks to prevent a war breaking in Sri Lanka, said sources.

The LTTE Political Head, reiterated the LTTE stand, that all contacts with the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) would be maintained through the facilitator, the Norwegian Government, when responding to the inter-religious group from the south urged the LTTE to develop contacts with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse.

On Monday, the Norwegian Ambassador visited Allaipiddy from where the entire population - 650 families - are displaced on the wake of Allaipiddy killings in the Jaffna islets in which 8 civilians including a four months baby and a four year old boy were killed on 13th May, and to Manthuvil in Themaradchchi where 9 residents had disappeared from a temple on the 7th of May.
