SLA soldier, civilian killed in Claymore attack

Unidentified attackers exploded a side charger Claymore mine, killing an SLA soldier and a civilian, on Kokkuvil- Anaikoddai Road, 300 meters from Kokkuvil Junction, around 6:00 p.m. Thursday. The wounded trooper and the dead body of the soldier, were taken to Palaly military base hospital, Police said.

The civilian victim was identified as Sivananthan Sivakumar, 40, a Cleansing Supervisor at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, medical sources said.

The claymore attack targetted an SLA patrol from Kokkuvil to Aanaikoddai.

The SLA soldiers opened fire for 30 minutes after the attack, and launched a search operation in the area after the blast, civilian sources said.
