Tamil families flee Muttur town

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 31 May 2006, 09:28 GMT]
Tamil families in the government controlled Muttur town in the Trincomalee district have started moving out to safer areas due to the escalation in number of killings of young men, sources said. About ten Tamil families left Muttur town by ferry to Trincomalee town Tuesday morning.

Last Saturday a Tamil youth Mathavarajah Sathananthan of Kadatkaraichchenai in Muttur east was abducted by unidentified persons at the Muttur jetty. His body was found Sunday morning in Muttur town.

Earlier four Tamil youths were shot dead by unidentified persons in three separate incidents in Muttur town. The whereabouts of a Tamil youth arrested by the Sri Lanka Army in a cordon and search operation in Iruthayapuram in the government controlled Muttur division one month ago are not known, sources said.
