Thileepan Hospitals serve Muttur displaced Tamils

[TamilNet, Sunday, 04 June 2006, 16:00 GMT]
The medical needs of about fifty thousand people residing in LTTE-held villages in the Muttur east, Eachchilampathu division in the Trincomalee district and Vaharai division in the Batticaloa district are being looked after by Thileepan Medical Hospitals located in Pattalipuram, Valaithoddam and Kathiraveli, which are manned by medical officers from the Thamileelam Medical College, said Mr. S. Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The government hospitals located in Sampoor in Muttur east, Eachchilampathu in Eachchilampathu division and Panichchankerni in Vaharai division have been closed as medical officers appointed by the Government of Sri Lanka have failed to report for duty following the increased violence and military actions launched by the State armed forces on the LTTE-held villages in the Trincomalee district, Mr. Elilan said.

"Since the closure of these government hospitals, Thileepan Medical Hospitals have been strengthened with the induction of newly graduated medical officers from the Thamileelam Medical College," Mr. S.Elilan said while speaking at the second anniversary event of Thileepan Medical Hospital in Kathiraveli on Sunday, sources said.

About fifty thousand people in these areas include displaced families from Tamil villages located in the government-controlled territory, Mr. Elilan said.

Pattalipuram Thileepan Medical Hospital is located in Muttur east, Valaithoddam in the Eachchilampaththu division and Kathiraveli in the Vaharai division.

At the commencement of the anniversary celebration, Mr.Elilan lit the common flame of sacrifice; Deputy Commander Arivu hoisted the Thamileelam national flag; Dr. Johnson of the Thamileelam Medical College lit the flame of sacrifice; and another medical officer, Kanthan, garlanded the photograph of Thiyagi Thileepan. Dr. Vannan presided over the event, sources said.
