Muttur Magistrate, Mr.Manickavasagar Ganesharajah, Wednesday directed the Muttur Police to conduct inquiries into the abduction of Mr.Selvarajah Gajanathan, a Co-operative Development Officer, with the co-operation of public, legal sources said. Mr.Gajanathan was abducted by an unidentified person on June 1 evening when he went to facilitate the transfer of dry ration relief from Sri Lanka government controlled territory into LTTE held Muttur east through Kaddaiparichchan sentry point of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), sources said.

The Magistrate queried the Muttur Police about the action it had taken regarding the alleged abduction. Muttur Police informed court that they were not in a position to conduct an inquiry as they have not received any formal complaint regarding the alleged abduction of the officer in question, Police sources said.

The police further told court that members of the public or the relatives of the missing officer are not coming forward to lodge a complaint through fear, legal sources said.

Meanwhile, the Muttur Magistrate brought the alleged abduction to the notice of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) at a discussion he held with the SLMM representatives in the court house regarding the security situation in the Muttur division, legal sources said.
