SLA guns down youth at Vavuniya checkpoint

Sri Lanka Army authorities in Vavuniya said that troops have shot and killed a suspected member of the Liberation Tigers at Pandarikkulam in, around 2.30 p.m., Sunday. They said the youth was riding pillion in a motorbike and attempted to fire at the soldiers with a pistol when the the soldiers directed the riders to stop at at a SLA road check. The youth riding the motorbike escaped.

A grenade was recovered from the youth, who was identified as Armukam Jeganathan, 24, of Meesalai in Jaffna peninsula, the SLA said.

Vavuniya District Judge Mr.Illancheliyan inspected the site.
