Two SLA soldiers injured in grenade attack in Trincomalee

Two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were injured when unidentified men lobbed a grenade at a sentry post at Bharathipuram, a suburb of Trincomalee town, aroun 8 a.m., Tuesday morning, police sources said.

The injured soldiers were admitted at the Trincomalee general hospital, the sources said.

SLA soldiers fired random after the grenade attack.

The troops conducted a cordon and search operation in the surrounding area.

Tamils residing near the blast site and those who were travelling through Bharathipuram were assaulted by SLA soldiers, civil sources in the area said.

Bharathipuram is a Tamil settlement along the Trincomalee-Anuradhapuram road. It borders Mihindupura, a Sinhalese settlement.
